by Miranda Haines (Editor), Sarah Thorowgood (Editor)

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
There are so many travel choices it's frightening, or it would be if not for Miranda Haines's Traveler's Handbook, which helps with issues like when to travel, where to travel, which festivals to aim for or avoid, what guides to buy, and what kind of focus you want in your trip: independence, adventure, romance, luxury, work, or eco-travel. The Handbook explores each option, describing the ups and downs o traveling alone, as well as the practicalities to consider for pregnant, elderly, and diabetic travel, honeymoon, gay, and vegetarian travel, and female, student, and business travel.
There are chapters on all the concerns of flying (how to choose an airline, getting a good deal, traveler's protection), overlanding (motorbikes to trucks to buying and selling a car abroad), train travel, river travel, hitchhiking, foot, and microlight travel, cargo ship, horse, and camel travel....Read more....

A must have travel book, October 2, 2000
Reviewer: Mitchell Ayer from Katy, Tx USA

The authors set forth the 47 places you must see in your lifetime. They make a good case for each place and the pictures are great. There are some surprises in this list-like the Flaming Cliffs of the Gobi Desert. After reading this book I booked trips to the West coast of Norway and Kenya and Tanzania. (41 more places to go) I would be interested in hearing from anyone trying to visit all 47 places. I cannot say enough good things about this book. I have a hundred or so travel books and this is by far my favorite. It also makes a great gift.

Traveler's World Atlas and Guide

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
This portable world atlas provides everything but the airline tickets. From the very first map, its superiority is evident; it is elegantly drawn, beautiful to look at, and remarkably easy to use. Revised in 1997, its 256 pages include world time zones, air distances between world cities, international phone codes, embassies, climates, visas, and travel advisories, as well as country profiles, world flags, and 110 maps of continents, countries, states, and cities. The index identifies places by latitude and longitude as well as by map page, and there's even a calendar from 1997-2000, conversion information on weights, measures, and temperature, and pages for addresses, travel notes, itineraries, and finances. All that would be fluff if the maps weren't so spectacular, but as it is, Traveler's World Atlas & Guide is the best travel atlas on the market.
